The Latest Fashion Cover Up

I, Jean X have now seen it all. Each week I catch up on the lastest in the denim market- the good, the bad and the absurd. This is the latter of the three. I don't know if I should LOL or be mortified.
This is their tagline: "If you're going to show them, make sure they're worth seeing."
I see a "cover up" here folks- definitely a fashion conspiracy. Designer Kimberly Brewer has created Backtacular and they're made to cover your unsightly butt crack with some bling. This takes patched jeans to a whole new level. Seriously- so you know your crack is showing because your premium jeans run extremely low and now you have a way to draw even more attention to it by covering your crack with a decorative patch. It almost looks like a birth control or nicotine patch that's patterned. Backtacular is a hypoallergenic, (I would hope so, so you don't end up like those poor babies with the diaper burns) adhesive patch that is applied directly to the skin above the upper cleft of the buttocks. Each package comes with two replacent tapes. What do you think? Should they develop a casual work day style for plumbers?

I really want to hear from you on this one. Does anyone out there wear these? Convince me that this is truly fashion and I will write a new review. That's my story and I'm sticking to it- well, I guess you can say, it will stick to you! Check out the latest styles at myXjeans.com. We'll try to cover you in all the right places.

Peace Over Violence: Annual Denim Day USA 2010

This story is reprinted from the organization's Facebook page. Many denim companies are partnering to promote this very important organization. Peace Over Violence is proud to present the Annual Denim Day USA 2010, a campaign to raise awareness and educate the public about rape and sexual assault.
In 1998, an Italian Supreme Court decision overturned a rape conviction because the victim wore jeans, reasoning she must have helped her attacker remove them. People all over the world were outraged. Wearing jeans became an international symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.

This day we unite against the sexual assault of girls, women, boys and men. We stand in support of survivors. We break the silence to end sexual violence.

On Denim Day, wear your jeans as a visible sign of protest against the myths that still surround sexual assault!

Thank you for your support-
Jean X

A 40 something year old mom in junior denim?

Should 40+ year old moms ever consider wearing “Mom Jeans?” I noticed a lot of the moms in my hood wearing capri jeans and wanted to get a pair, but didn't want to look like the typical "mom". We don’t have many listings on myXjeans for capri denim yet, so I had to go to a retail store. Gasp, I know! I walked through a moderately priced department store and the missy sizes didn’t have the style I was looking for, so I remembered that they carried my favorite junior brand. And no, Jean X can’t quite get into anything really small, but was blessed with no hips, so I grabbed the size I wear in their full length denim and they fit perfectly. They also were worn out and had tears all in the right places! So, my second question is, can 40+ year old moms wear junior denim? Let’s compare- here is a hilarious video I found on the less than flattering “Mom Jeans” and here is a recent photo of Demi Moore, who is (ahem)…my age! Which image would you want? Heck, even if you're not a mom, you get my drift! I’m definitely staying junior as long as my hips can handle it! Celebrate spring by grabbing a new bloom at myXjeans. You're as young as you feel!

Spring/Summer Denim Trends Exposed

The trends for this spring and summer denim plays a game of peek-a-boo. The tendency is toward exposure, which makes sense in warmer weather- so very distressed jeans, ripped jeans and lots of shredded looks will be strolling the boardwalks and venting flames at hot BBQ’s. But the other trend which reflects my youth includes covering those same holes with patches. Honestly, I’m not crazy about them. I surfed the Net and most looked like I sewed the patches on- not a pretty visual! But, one designer who gets almost everything right, made patched jeans hot. Do the chains give it away? Check out what’s new this week at myXjeans.com.

How Boyfriends or even X Boyfriends can solve your fashion dilemma

It was 80 degrees here in Detroit today. No joke. We all welcomed the day with open arms, but like many, I Jean X was not ready with anything that resembled a summer wardrobe. As I looked around on the Internet to see what’s new in the world of denim, the stars all had it right. First, most celebs live in California, so their legs were shaved and many were sporting boyfriend jeans which are the perfect solution for summer weather in April in a cold weather state! The beauty of the boyfriend is that almost every brand makes at least one style and sometimes several. You can also go authentic and grab your favorite guy’s jeans and roll up the bottoms. You could also get authentic and throw in some drama by stealing your beau’s jeans and then kicking him to the curb, making those jeans X boyfriends! Slouchy and comfortable, some say this hot trend was started last year by Katie Holmes. This year, the boyfriend jean has become a spring essential. So, I say go get a boyfriend or two, but please, practice safe fashion.

Get more than ZZZ's from Pajama Jeans

So, after lasts weeks talk about super tight skinny jeans, yesterday on the Today Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda, their Style Buzz showcased “Comfy Couture” which included Jeggings and jeans from a new company called Pajama Jeans.

I don't think these would be classified as premium jeans, since they are only $39.95 and the fabric is more like soft knit than denim, but what an awesome idea! Think about wearing them for Thanksgiving dinner – you could eat whatever you want and not bust out of your jeans! They’re actually pretty cute.
Joe Zee, Creative Director at Elle magazine comments, "They look so chic…I love it. They look like sharp, clean, polished denim. I'm always a big fan of something that can look slick and be comfortable. I don't think we always need to suffer for style every single moment of our lives"
"We think this might be the next really big thing. They really do feel like jammies," says Rachel Ray.

Other comfy jean couture included ultimate stretchy styles from Hudson, Joe’s Jeans and Hue. So, get off the floor and stop fretting over sucking it in. Take a deep breath and enjoy spring. See what's blooming at myXjeans.com. Plenty of new comfy styles are being listed daily.

Skinny jeans humor on the Disney Channel?

Okay, I know skinny jeans are in, but seriously, why do we pressure ourselves into them? Yes, I have a pair, but I can actually breathe in them and they aren’t ultra tight. I do not have to lie down to zip them up. I refuse to wear anything that requires that much work! And really, the ultra tight fitting jeans can only be worn by a limited few. So, who is dictating this fashion pain?

Last night, as I was pondering what to blog about, my daughter couldn’t miss what was supposed to be the big cliff hanger for Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel. I watch the Disney Channel for two reasons. First, I want to make sure what my daughter is watching is appropriate, and two, some of the shows are pretty clever. Now, you would think Hannah Montana and other teen pop stars would wear and promote the hottest fashion, but on the show after Hannah Montana, called Sonny with a Chance, they totally made fun of skinny jeans and it was hilarious!

Sonny, who is played by Demi Lovato can pull off physical comedy that’s reminiscent of Gilda Radner from SNL. Her co-star Tiffany Thornton who plays the self-centered Tawni Hart decides in this episode to launch her own line of “extreme skinny jeans”.

In order for all the cast members to participate in a fundraiser, Tawni makes them wear her new jeans that require a “butt horn” to get into them. Barely being able to walk or sit, they all came down with a condition called “SPS” skinny pant syndrome. One by one, they fell to the ground with leg paralysis. All were taken to the hospital where the jeans had to be cut off of them. They ended the show with a song which included the lyrics, “Time to stop the hate and let your legs circulate,” while sporting loose fitting pants. Even my husband was laughing.

So, think about it. The next time you’re lying on the floor trying to get in or out of your jeans, remember, there may be teens out there with more common sense and a better sense of style. Isn’t that scary? Check out what's new at myXjeans.com.

Get Lucky this Month!

With St. Patrick’s Day coming, now is the perfect time to talk about Lucky Brand jeans! It was also 20 years ago that Lucky Brand shipped their first order of jeans. With the love of rock and roll and denim, founders and childhood friends Gene Montesano and Barry Perlman started their jeans business in 1974 at the height of the hippie era and created their line of washed jeans- their labor of love which would occur late at night in a Florida laundry mat! Their secret to great washed jeans were coins and bleach thrown into the wash. Gene moved to L.A. in 1978 and started Bongo Jeans with partner Michael Caruso growing it into a multi-million dollar company. Then, in 1990, Gene left Bongo to launch his dream, Lucky Brand and had Barry join him. Their goal was to create a denim company without compromise and about great quality and good humor. With their attention to fit, “Lucky You” became their message which can still be seen on every pair. What I love about them besides their fit is that they keep their prices pretty affordable. We have had a few listed here at myXjeans. Here are my favorite Lucky boyfriend jeans. May the luck of the Irish be with you this week.  xoxo Jean X.

Short Cuts to Cure Your Winter Blues

It’s that time of the year. We folks in the snow states are already growing tired of layering, putting on our puffy coats and dealing with wind-chill factors. On the flip side, all the stores are blooming with the latest spring fashions and yes, I broke down and bought my daughter some denim Capri’s to “put away” for a couple of months. There really is no easy way to wear them early, but what about denim shorts with tights or a denim mini with leggings? You bet! In NYC, Nicole Ritchie was spotted pushing spring and looked awesome. So, should suburbanites dare to try this at home? Pair either shorts or a mini with boots and I say yes! Go for it. Check out what’s new at myXjeans. Grab something new to you and wear them now. Just one more week till March!

Paige's Perfect Fit

Paige Adams-Geller, dubbed the "Queen of Jeans" by People magazine and the former fit model behind brands from 7 for All Mankind, True Religion, Guess and others, spent years being fitted by men. As cutting edge as these brands were, Geller knew they were missing a woman’s eye. Paige’s “perfect fit” for everybody delivers that soft touch which her male designer counterparts couldn’t quite master. Geller even wrote a book on it in 2007. After polling a small group of women this past week, I discovered that Paige was their favorite premium jean.

“Paige definitely fit the best”, says Sarah, a second year medical student. The designs behind Paige Premium Denim fit all women and men too- depending on what you want to emphasize or might need help with. Her various back pockets can make all the difference in the world! Jeans named after her favorite California spots such as Benedict Canyon are dressing Hollywood celebrities from Rihanna to Miley Cyrus and Taylor Lautner to Heidi Klum. Check out our listing often on myXjeans for Paige Premium Denim, because they go fast! See what a perfect fit should really look like.

London Edge Meets LA Glam

That is the philosophy behind HUDSON jeans. We're starting to see more and more listed here at myXjeans, since they're becoming so popular among celebrities. They’re designed to appeal to many. Of course they’re going to look good on Georgia May Jagger, HUDSON’s newest face. But what about real people? Mom’s that are only part-time rockers, usually holding a book or baby bottle, or students trying to make the grade. Here’s what I found out:

"They are my favorite!" said Wendy, mom of a beautiful 4 year old boy and has another one on the way! "They really fit well when I put them on. Also, I really love the pocket with the flap, it makes my rather full bottom look great!"

HUDSON jeans are known for conforming to your body and shape. So, whether you’re a mom on the run, a student who knows how to choose something smart or a closet rock star, HUDSON jeans will make you look great and isn’t that worth every penny?

White Denim Now?

Most of us grew up with the gospel of wearing white bottoms and shoes only between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Memorial Day is a long way off, but it seems that white is becoming more acceptable all year round! Now, if you Google 'white denim', you’re going to not see jeans, but a hugely popular music band from Austin Texas. Meanwhile, white jeans are coming in very slowly right now at myXjeans.

I decided to dig further to see what the consensus was on wearing white today, when it’s thirty something degrees outside and a light dusting of snow blankets the ground. The answers were yes! With the right chunky sweater and fabulous boots, white jeans are totally acceptable. My favorites which really are classified in the stores now as “Cruise wear” include: fabulously fitted 7’s, a great pair from Hudson and the “Palm Beach” from Lily Pulitzer. Yeah, I think a tropical paradise would be more my comfort zone as far as wearing white jeans before May! A perfect winter compromise?
J Brand Thrashers- they’re mostly white and pretty awesome!

How to wear jeans at work

“I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity - all I hope for in my clothes.”
-Yves Saint Laurent

I love Fridays because we can wear jeans to work. So, my new skinny jeans arrived this week, thanks to a lucky tip off from another myXjeans fan and the fit is fabulous. I opted for Levis (size not to be disclosed), but they are so comfortable and fit easily into my new black up-to-the-knee boots! I just threw on a button down shirt and was off. What a great way to start a Friday morning.

On Fridays in general, I check out what the other 500+ people in my building are pairing up with their jeans. Yes, it’s true, Jean X works in a large corporate environment during the week! I see everything from blazers with jeans to polar fleece and hiking boots! It always seems easier for the guys- what’s up with that? The whole perception between men and women in the workplace could probably be a 10-volume blog on its own, but I think the biggest difference is that guys keep it simple. No bangles, earrings, well, big earrings, curled hair, crazy heels you can’t walk in- you get the picture.

So, how can women keep it simple, wear jeans at work and still be taken seriously? Think Brooke Shields during the early years of Calvin Klein when she sported jeans, a solid button down, simple jewelry and flats. What about Audrey Hepburn? She inspired almost every denim company to produce a cropped jean with no embellishment. Today's look isn't that different than what Brooke made popular almost 30 years ago- a simple jewel-toned blouse and boots or heels give jeans that professional edge. Remember to leave your really distressed jeans at home. If you are in a more conservative workplace, a blazer gives jeans a more polished and confident look. A great article was posted last week in ChicagoBusiness about bringing jeans into the office. I actually found the comments even more interesting! Another rule of thumb; unless you work in the fashion industry, keep the extra bling at home!

Have a wonderful weekend-
xoxo

The Real Deal with Real People!

As is any business, when something new launches, educating potential customers is key. Sometimes the hardest thing to explain is what you can’t see. Our goal at myX is simple. We provide opportunities to buy and sell premium denim. The best part is you can do this from the comfort of your home and we don’t auction, so you don’t have to stress out about bidding. To me, it’s a total treasure hunt! What was listed yesterday, last night, this morning? Are they my size? Should I grab them now, or chance it and wait till after class or after work? What if I get them and they don’t fit?

We’re not a collection of web pages without real people behind them. Talk to us. We’re here to answer questions. Our sellers are ready to answer questions. We want you to be happy. If you tell all your friends, more people will list and you’ll have more selection! It’s a beautiful thing…
